About Sandy Henning Gardens:

I work exclusively with a local nursery. Plants are chosen that are appropriate for our climate as well as site locations. I personally oversee all trucks being loaded and supervise the men at the job site. Frequently designs are adjusted according to the unique shape of the tree or shrub when it is at the site. My goal is for a garden to be attractive when it is first planted but also for it to function as a work in progress as it grows and matures.
In 2007 I designed the "Frog" garden under the Cedar Trees at the Metcalf Showhouse. My gardens have been on tours for Monmouth Medical, the N.Y. Horticultural Society, and the Rye Historical Society.
After graduating from college in 1971, I designed rooftop and penthouse gardens in NYC for Peter Dunlop, Inc. at Horiculture House. From 1975 -1978 I worked and studied at the New York Botanical Garden. In 1979, sponsored by Wamsutta, I delivered garden lectures throughout the USA. From 1980-1986 I was senior garden designer for L.Baronio,Rye,N.Y. I have owned and managed my own business, Sandy Henning Gardens, principally in Monmouth County, since 1986. For more than 10 years I was the weekly gardening columnist for the Two River Times, including the "Children's Column." As part of that newspaper's subscription marketing campaign. I designed a Garden Calendar. My gardens have been published in Westchester Magazine, House and Garden, Architectural Digest, and Design NJ.
